Michael Anderson

Michael is an NIHR-funded Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester and a salaried GP in North Yorkshire. He holds a PhD in Health Policy and Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a distinction in a joint master’s degree in Health Policy, Planning & Financing from LSE and LSHTM.
His research focuses on the public-private healthcare interface, workforce planning, pharmaceutical policy (including antimicrobial resistance), disinvestment in low-value care, and international healthcare comparisons. Michael is a Senior Visiting Fellow at LSE, collaborates with the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, and co-led the LSE-Lancet Commission on ‘The Future of the NHS.’ He has held fellowships with NHS England, PHIN, and advised the WHO, OECD, and several EU Presidencies.
