Matt Sutton

Matt is a Professor of Health Economics and co-lead of the Health Organisation, Policy and Economics (HOPE) research group at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on healthcare financing, organisation, workforce, and health behaviours, employing micro-econometric techniques to evaluate financial and non-financial incentives, resource allocation formulae, and workforce dynamics.

Matt holds a degree in Economics with Econometrics (Leeds, 1990) and an MSc in Health Economics (York, 1991). He has held roles at the University of York, the Scottish Executive, and the University of Glasgow, among others, before joining Manchester in 2008. His research has informed NHS resource allocation formulae in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland and examines how contracts, payment systems, and working conditions influence healthcare performance and workforce satisfaction.
